The NMI Council for the Humanities is compiling a database of digital photographic images that documents the history and cultures of the Northern Mariana Islands.
The database, which currently contains approximately 3,000 images, will be available for public use to support academic, family and genealogy research. Images are being scanned at high resolution for maximum quality. Contextual information relating to individual images, including original captions, is also being collected, whenever possible.
The Council seeks you help in acquiring images to add to the database. Photographs should depict people, places and events in the Northern Mariana Islands before 1985. When appropriate, the Council will make the necessary arrangements to carefully scan your original photographs or slides to produce digital files that will be added to the database. Donors will also be provided with digital files of their photographs, when requested. Download a project flyer.
Please contact Council staff at (670) 235-4785 or email photo@nmihumanities.org to make arrangements necessary to donate your images.
This project is sponsored, in part, by a "We the People" grant awarded to the Council by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
