The Council is pleased to provide a range of materials and services to the public in support of the humanities. These resources include Council supported publications, PowerPoint presentations on a the history of the Northern Mariana Islands, video programs focusing on the humanities, and class presentations.
Over the past decade, the Council has placed priority on supporting the publication of books that document the rich history and cultures of the Northern Mariana Islands. These range from ancient history dating back nearly four millennia to more recent events of the past five decades. The Council will continue to support worthy research and publication projects in the coming year. New publications expected to be available in 2005 include a history of Spanish political prisoners who were deported to Saipan and Rota in the 1870s, the late 18th century account about the islands prepared by the commander of a French naval expedition, and a history of Filipino involvement in the Mariana Islands.
